Ratton Councillors Colin Belsey and David Small have today formally objected to a proposal to convert a small family home at 9 Framfield Way into multiple occupancy accommodation consisting of 9 bedrooms sharing a single kitchen area.
The application seeks to build a large dormer onto the rear of the existing house and convert the existing garage in order to create the 9 bedrooms. The current front garden will be converted into 3 parking spaces.
Objecting to the application, Cllr David Small said "The scale of overdevelopment in this application is staggering. To squeeze nine bedrooms and potentially fifteen or more residents into a family home, with just one shared kitchen and three parking spaces, shows a complete disregard for both future tenants and existing residents. Framfield Way already faces severe parking pressures, and this development would only make an already difficult situation completely untenable."
Cllr Colin Belsey added "We simply cannot allow developers to strip our community of much-needed family homes just to maximise their profits. Eastbourne Council's own housing study clearly shows we need more family housing, not cramped HMOs. The proposed development would not only harm the character of our neighborhood but also set a dangerous precedent for similar conversions across Ratton. The fact that this is being proposed by a London-based company with a track record of poorly maintained properties makes it even more concerning."
