Sovereign Ward Councillor Kshama Shore has put forward a Motion:
“urging the Council to ask the Cabinet to explore all options to keep all the facilities at the Sovereign Leisure Centre open”.
This motion will be debated at Full Council meeting tonight (20 November 2024) apart from Councillors, there will be 3 independent speakers.
Councillor Shore has been inundated with responses (after she spoke at the Cabinet) on the strategic Finance programme which listed several savings proposals, like public toilet closures, reduction in street cleaning, grounds maintenance, reduction in customer service, increased car parking charges and last but not least the proposed closure of training and fun pool.
Many residents of Eastbourne are terribly upset that this Council is proposing this action. This is a thriving business – beloved of children and adults alike. Yes, it is old and needs some repairs, but it is working, and the main argument is that how can a town by the sea decide to wilfully dismantle learning to swim opportunities?
If you have ever visited the fun pool, you will remember the cacophony of laughter and sounds of chatter and rattle - a joy to behold. Tell us what you think?
